First Officer's Log

It was on the 21st day of the 7th month when we had been contacted via telegram. At the request of our client,
we were to receive 155 boxes at the port of Black Forest and set sail for Summerset.

All seemed well at first.
Yet, it was only a short spell before the unpredictable started to happen.
The food locker was raided, and supplies turned up missing.
only five days into a twenty-four-day trip we had to cut back to half rations.

Still only days thereafter, pestilence set in.
All the meat and bread we had on board were tossed from the ship at the captain's command.
Now we are on bone rations.

A dozen of my men, I have witnessed stalking rats, searching for anything to meet the needs of life.
I have pleaded with fellow officers to open the reserves chest, allow the men to have a drink before madness takes hold.
The senior-most would have none of this.

Come the 28th-day of the 8th month.
We had been lost at sea for weeks.
A fog that I had never seen blankets the sky.
The men had been brave, when the last of the food ran out, we had cut apart our boots and gathered ropes to eat.
The captain and the helmsmen have gone missing.
Crying in the night is becoming all too well know of a sound.

3rd day of the 9th month.

the unspeakable happened.
The cargo hold was broken into.
only to find that which we have offered our lives for is little more than boxes of clay.
At dawn, the fog had broken, and we have discovered we were only a few knots from landfall.

A church sits on the shoreline, the flag of King Gregory flies in the courtyard.
The men are in a fit. We beach the ship.
Sword and pistol in hand the men charge the church, hunger leading to irrational anger.

I fear these are the last words I will write,
I had followed the men into the church,
the keepers of the faith had only sat down for breakfast when the sounds of cannon fire began. ...
